Warneford 200 exhibition opens in Headington

The Warneford 200 exhibition has opened its doors in Headington this week as part of a year-long programme of events to commemorate 200 years of the Warneford Hospital.

Presented by Oxford Health Charity, curated by the History of Science Museum, University of Oxford, and supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the exhibition explores how mental health care has evolved in Oxfordshire over two centuries, shaped by the people who lived, worked and received treatment at the Warneford Hospital. It is part of a series of exhibitions that are touring Oxfordshire.

The exhibition, which is free to enter, runs until 17 April at the Glass Tank, based at Oxford Brookes University’s Gipsy Lane Campus.

Further information, including directions, can be found on their website: Glass tank – Oxford Brookes University

With a focus on student mental health, visitors will be able to learn about the people who have worked or stayed at the Warneford. Photos and drawings will show the hospital from the past, including admission records and case books.

The exhibition includes work by Oxford Brookes Fine Art students, who have designed and created signage for the Warneford 200 Therapy Garden, and by the Oxford Brookes Art Foundation students, who have visually interpreted some of the patient case histories from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
