Warneford Hospital’s bicentenary to feature in Oxfordshire Local History Association study day in Abingdon

The study day is open to anyone.

The 200-year history of Warneford Hospital is set to feature in a study day organised by Oxfordshire Local History Association (OLHA), with an opportunity to visit the Warneford 200 touring exhibition.

OLHA acts as an umbrella organisation for local history groups and promotes the study and publication of local history. Its study days, which are open to anyone, take place in the spring and autumn, each focusing on a particular aspect of Oxfordshire’s history. They include two or three illustrated talks in the morning and a guided walk, tour or exhibition in the afternoon.

Historians Dr Jane Freebody and Dr John Hall, who have been heavily involved in the Warneford 200 commemorations, will reflect on the history of the Warneford and on this year’s programme of events to mark its anniversary. In the afternoon, guests will have the opportunity to explore aspects of the history of ‘Britain’s oldest town’ through guided walks and visits to venues including the Little Basement Museum; the roof of Abingdon County Hall Museum (weather permitting) and view the Warneford 200 exhibition on display in the museum.

Date: Saturday 14 November 2026

Time: 10am-4pm

Venue: St Helen’s Parish Centre, St Helen’s Court, Abingdon OX14 5BS
